The new physician lounge has been in the works for some time now, and it opened Friday morning! With a little fanfare and a lot of fun, we cut the ribbon on this new space for physicians. Our surgical physician lounge will continue to be open for physicians, but we’ve created a second lounge that is more convenient for physicians making rounds on the floors and gives them easier access to hang up winter coats, grab a quick bite to eat or work in a quiet space.
The new lounge is located next to my office on the first floor of the hospital in the same hallway as Nursing Administration. That’s by design. One of my goals is to be more accessible to the physicians, and that was pretty hard in the third floor office. I’ve already had the opportunity to visit with more physicians since I’ve made the move to the new office. And doctors are now stopping in on their way to the new physician lounge.
Unlike the surgical lounge, the new space has a window that allows in natural light. And the lounge is more functional and comfortable with a food galley and tables around the corner from the main space. Overall, we tried to make a comfortable and useful lounge for our physicians where they can gain a respite from their busy day.
Part of our fun Friday morning was formally naming Dr. Vosik as “CEO of the Physician Lounge” and giving him a name badge with his new title. Dr. Vosik graciously accepted his new role, but a few fellow physicians jokingly suggested “lounge lizard” might be a better name! Whatever the title, he did tell me that he would be patrolling the lounge to ensure it remains neat and tidy.
Doctors are welcome to use whichever lounge they prefer—or both.
I’m especially excited about the opening of the new physicians lounge because it helps bring the doctors and hospital closer together. We’re all furthering the mission our founding Sisters devoted their lives to creating. Our collective work at GSH is sacred and it’s our obligation to work together to carry it out.
Here are a few photos from Friday's opening of the new physician lounge.

Dr. Rude joined us for the morning's events. Physicians were also fitted for lab coats at the open house; those racks aren't usually in the back of the room.
