Objectives:

- List ways that poisons enter the body.
- Identify signs and symptoms associated with different types of poisonings.
- Describe care for patients who have been either accidentally or purposefully poisoned.
- Recognize generic and trade names, and uses of medications.
- Describe pre-hospital care and medical direction of poisonings.

Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:
- Describe how dangerous a farm auger is.
- List areas where augers are found.
- Describe methods of extrication.
- Describe dangers of flowing grain.
- List places of incidents involving flowing grain.
- List reasons for use of Incident Command System.

Communicating--Two Tin Cans and a String
Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:
- Use proper methods of initiating and terminating radio calls.
- use the proper sequences for delivery of patient information.
- Identify the essential parts of a verbal patient report.
- Understand limitations of radio communications, base stations, mobile transmitters/receivers, and portable transmitters/receivers.
- Define communication skills used to interact with patients and family members.

Cardiac Emergencies-Aspirin, Nitroglycerin, & AED's
Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the emergency medical care of a patient experiencing chest pain/discomfort.
- List indications for aspirin, nitroglycerin, and use of AED's.
- Define the role of the EMT-basic in the emergency cardiac care system.
- Discuss the fundamentals of early defibrillation.
- State reasons for assuring that the patient is pulseless and apneic when using an AED.
- Discuss the standard of care that should be used to provide care for recurrent V-fib with no available ACLS.
