Objectives:

  1. List ways that poisons enter the body.
  2. Identify signs and symptoms associated with different types of poisonings.
  3. Describe care for patients who have been either accidentally or purposefully poisoned.
  4. Recognize generic and trade names, and uses of medications.
  5. Describe pre-hospital care and medical direction of poisonings.

Farm Accident Extrication
Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe how dangerous a farm auger is.
  2. List areas where augers are found.
  3. Describe methods of extrication.
  4. Describe dangers of flowing grain.
  5. List places of incidents involving flowing grain.
  6. List reasons for use of Incident Command System.

Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:

  1. Use proper methods of initiating and terminating radio calls.
  2. use the proper sequences for delivery of patient information.
  3. Identify the essential parts of a verbal patient report.
  4. Understand limitations of radio communications, base stations, mobile transmitters/receivers, and portable transmitters/receivers.
  5. Define communication skills used to interact with patients and family members.

Cardiac Emergencies-Aspirin, Nitroglycerin, & AED's
Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the emergency medical care of a patient experiencing chest pain/discomfort.
  2. List indications for aspirin, nitroglycerin, and use of AED's.
  3. Define the role of the EMT-basic in the emergency cardiac care system.
  4. Discuss the fundamentals of early defibrillation.
  5. State reasons for assuring that the patient is pulseless and apneic when using an AED.
  6. Discuss the standard of care that should be used to provide care for recurrent V-fib with no available ACLS.
